Snow throw distance setting

Snow throw distance setting

It seems the snow throw distance setting is backwards. When I set it to 0-0 the chute deflector is all the way open. In my mind that is the maximum distance.
If I set it to 42-42 the chute deflector is turned all the way down. In my mind this is the shortest distance. 
Is my thinking that this is backwards wrong?
