[2023] Modes of Network Configuration

Hotspot Mode

Notes
Tips:
  1. For optimal mapping performance, we recommend utilizing Hotspot Mode to ensure a prompt response without any delays.
  2. When operating in Hotspot Mode, please ensure you stay within a 10ft range of Yarbo.
  3. Upon completing the mapping process, please switch to Internet Mode for remote control of Yarbo.
  4. After establishing a connection to Yarbo's hotspot, navigate within the Yarbo app to the 'Connect to Yarbo Hotspot' option. From there, you have the flexibility to choose whether to enter Hotspot Mode.

What is Hotspot Mode?

Hotspot mode is a simple remote access feature enabled by the Yarbo APP for your controller. It facilitates the sharing of Yarbo's mobile data connection (e.g., 3G, 4G, 5G) with other devices, like your mobile device. Yarbo operates as a Wi-Fi hotspot, which allowing your mobile device to connect wirelessly and establish a localized network. Within this network, Yarbo and mobile device can seamlessly communicate and exchange data. This setup enables Yarbo to access the internet through a shared wireless connection.
This connection allows your mobile device to send control commands to Yarbo. Yarbo will provide feedback on its current status and executed operations. This type of connection provides a convenient way for Yarbo to link to the internet for monitoring and control. This is very useful for providing in places where there is no internet connection.

How to use/switch to Hotspot Mode?

Enter hotspot mode from the onboarding guide

Once you receive your Yarbo, please log in to the APP and scan the code associated with your Yarbo. This initiates our onboarding guide process. Throughout this process, the system will guide you through entering hotspot mode. The specific steps are as follows:
1. In the onboarding guide, upon completing the "Assemble Your Yarbo" step, the page will seamlessly transition to guiding you through the process of connecting to the Yarbo Hotspot.

2. Then, follow the instruction and access the Wi-Fi settings on your mobile device, select the Yarbo device you want to operate, typically identified by the SN number ending in Yarbo. The default hotspot name should be something like "Yarbo_rover_XXXXXX". For the initial connection, enter the default password (87654321).

3. Wait for your mobile device to successfully connect to the Yarbo device hotspot.
4. Once your mobile device has been connected to the Yarbo device hotspot, you will see the homepage shown at the screenshot below. At this point, you've successfully connected to hotspot mode.

5. You can click on the "I've connected" button to continue with the next steps.

Enter hotspot mode from the setting page

1. Inside the Yarbo Setting Page, activate Hotspot mode.

2. Then, access the Wi-Fi settings on your mobile device, select the Yarbo device you want to operate, typically identified by the SN number ending in Yarbo.

Benefits & Drawbacks

Benefits:
  1. Low latency, enabling better and more precise control of Yarbo.
  2. No data consumption when the distance between Yarbo and the base is less than 300 feet.
Drawbacks:
  • Hotspot transmission has distance limitations; the distance between the mobile device and the Yarbo can not exceed 3.3 feet, preventing remote control.

Internet Mode

Internet mode refers to Yarbo being connected to either 4G or Wi-Fi for operation, but not tethered to Yarbo's hotspot. In this mode, Yarbo can establish a direct connection to the public internet, enabling remote communication, data transmission, and control. It's essential to note that occasional delays in control responsiveness may occur during operation in this mode.
Furthermore, utilizing the 4G mode will result in data consumption. However, when Yarbo intentionally connects to Wi-Fi with the 4G mode deactivated, there will be zero data consumption. This configuration provides users with the flexibility to manage data usage based on their preferences and operational needs.

4G mode

Notes
Tips:
We recommend you to operate Yarbo with a Wi-Fi connection, as 4G usage will result in data consumption.

What is 4G Network mode?

The 4G mode refers to the connection method utilizing 4G, allowing Yarbo connect to the public internet for remote communication, data transmission, and control.

How to switch to 4G mode?

Please access the settings page and activate the 4G mode. Ensure that your mobile device is not connected to Yarbo's hotspot. If it is, the configuration will remain in hotspot mode.

Benefits & Drawbacks

Benefits:
  1. Yarbo can be controlled remotely.
Drawbacks:
  1. There is a delay in response.
  2. Data is being consumed.
  3. The connection signal is susceptible to fluctuations influenced by the 4G signal.

Wi-Fi Network mode

Notes
Tips:
We recommend utilizing the Wi-Fi mode for operations other than mapping to remotely control Yarbo without incurring data consumption.

What is Wi-Fi Network mode?

WiFi mode refers to the connection method through WiFi, which enables Yarbo to connect directly to the public Internet for remote communication, data transmission and control.

How to switch to WiFi mode?

Wi-Fi Connection:
1. Inside the Yarbo Setting Page, activate Hotspot mode. Click on "Wi-Fi" to enter the device network configuration page.
